Truth time: Okay people, I want you to all know something. I'm 32 years old and I'm not the greatest writer that ever lived (shocking, I know). That being said, I've been told that I'm an imaginative writer a modern day philosopher, a thinker for our generation. To these people I ask; Who's your dealer because whatever your on, it's messing you up.
Recently, a watcher of mine made the suggestion that people like my stories because all my characters have dark secrets. I thought about what he said for a minute and I guess I want to share my reply to them.
*All of your characters seem to have dark secrets*
That's because everyone does. In real life, everyone has their secrets, secrets so private, so personal, that it's life altering when they finally come out and tell at least one person; Hey, this is me, this is my life stripped bare and exposed for all to see.
I bet you real money, Mother Teresa had her dark secrets, Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., all had dark secrets they didn't want anyone to know about. Name any important figure in history and I will bet you they did too. That is why I approach my stories in this manner.
I need to get to bed, but let me leave you with this; We all wear masks, sometime more than one. A mask of who we want others to think we are, a facade of who we think others believe we should be. True liberation is removing the mask and letting those closest to us meet and get to know who we really are.
I hope all of you can take something away from this. It's something I've thought a lot about while growing up and I've found that it applies to every interaction we have whether it's digital or real life. I have no idea why I thought about writing this but, I don't know, It feels right.
